About Jia

I love to write, and I love to read. (And I also like art, design, fashion, film, history, photography, folklore and a couple of other things.) Sometimes I think I have ADHD, because my attention flits from one thing to another in an instant. Sometimes I think I might be cursed with OCD because I will obsess about one single, random, tiny detail for the longest time.

But through it all, I have always loved to read and write. And while I like to think that I read expansively on all topics and genres, I have to admit that speculative fiction has always been something of a favourite. Actually, one of my first crushes was Legolas from Lord of the Rings. I read the book at fourteen. (No, I’m not that young anymore.)  After that came Gerald Tarrant, from C.S. Friedman’s Coldfire Trilogy. And then I fell in love with Ender Wiggin, from Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game. (NO I AM NOT A PEDOPHILE) I’ll be the first to admit that those tumultuous days of raging teenage hormones are over, but I’ll always nurse a soft spot for my book heroes.

Apart from bookish stuff, I also enjoy dabbling in the kitchen, playing trying out new ice cream recipes, and expanding my tea collection.

I’m now slaving away with a day job in the beauty industry (who would have thought?) But I was previously an editor at a children’s publishing firm, and have freelanced as writer for a couple of publications. (Disney, CLEO, Telescope) Most importantly, I don’t mind extra cash. So if you would like to hire me for a writing or editing assignment, drop me a line at my email:
